Hello! I’m Nicola, a 23 year old bookworm who recently packed in the 9-5 life in favour of the weird and wonderful world of weddings! More specifically, filming and editing cinematic wedding films out of my studio (aka spare room) in Solihull, West Midlands.

I filmed my first wedding back in February for a friend of mine, at a beautiful rustic barn in Shrawley, Worcester. I knew how unprepared I was the minute I arrived and saw the array of kit the photographer had bought along, and I stood nervously in the corner of the bridal suite with my one camera wondering what, exactly, to film?! The day went by smoothly, much to my amazement, and by the time the first dance came I was feeling really rather chuffed with myself. After 10 hours of editing, I finally got to show the bride and groom their much awaited wedding film. They absolutely adored it and to say it gave me an amazing buzz would be an understatement – I was hooked.

6 months down the line and I now have an array of cameras, audio and lighting equipment, and having 8 weddings under my belt now I’ve learnt a great deal.

Here are the three most important things I’ve learned in my first 6 months:

– No two weddings are ever the same
– Expect the unexpected
– No-one ever regrets having a wedding film made

The thing about a wedding film is that long after the dress has gone off to the dry cleaners, it is one of the few things you will have to look back on forever. One of the things I hear most from brides is how quickly their day flew by in a blur; and watching their film they were able to see so many moments, people and emotions that they missed on the day.
